Doha: The Qatar Cultural Center for the Blind recently held a seminar titled "Artificial Intelligence: Between Assistance and Reliance," focusing on the conscious and responsible application of AI tools. The event aimed to raise awareness about how AI can be optimally utilized to support productivity and enhance performance efficiency.

According to Qatar News Agency, Mohammed Shafi' Al Fahida, a member of the center, opened the seminar by emphasizing that AI should not be seen as a replacement for humans but rather as a supportive tool. He noted that while AI can assist in preparing initial drafts and summarizing information, the quality of the final content heavily relies on human experience and decision-making skills.

Al Fahida further elaborated on AI's role in various professional domains, including journalism and public relations, where it can aid but not replace human expertise. He highlighted the risk of diminished critical thinking and analytical abilities if AI is relied upon entirely, stressing the need for humans to maintain and develop their skills alongside technological advancements.

The seminar also presented guidelines for AI use, advising against the entry of personal or sensitive information into AI systems and warning against dependence on AI for medical, health, or religious advice without consulting experts.

On a practical level, Al Fahida showcased AI applications that have notably enhanced the independence of visually impaired individuals. He reiterated that AI is a partner in work and learning, not a substitute for human skills, and responsible use is key to maximizing its benefits while preserving critical thinking abilities.
