Doha:The State of Qatar remains committed to mediating between the United States and Iran, aiming to bridge viewpoints and establish common ground between the two nations. Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed these ongoing efforts.
According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Ansari highlighted the importance of reaching a peaceful resolution and supporting mediation efforts, including those from Pakistan. He mentioned recent meetings and exchanges of messages between the involved parties, some of which occurred at the 81st UN General Assembly session in New York, and others beforehand. These efforts to facilitate communication are continuing.
Dr. Al Ansari condemned any targeting of regional infrastructure, emphasizing that such actions undermine people's interests and violate international law and good-neighborly relations. He stressed the necessity of respecting infrastructure amidst regional tensions.
Regarding the potential for non-aggression agreements between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and Iran, Dr. Al Ansari noted that the region's countries did not choose conflict with Iran. He urged Iranian officials to distance themselves from war, emphasizing peaceful dialogue as the solution. Qatar continues negotiations towards peaceful coexistence, despite facing a missile attack from Iran.
Dr. Al Ansari also addressed the humanitarian and political situation in the Gaza Strip, noting Qatar's active involvement in negotiations and meetings to discuss the situation. He criticized attempts to undermine ceasefire efforts and warned against developments in the West Bank that contradict international consensus.
He acknowledged the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and commended countries imposing sanctions on settlement activities in the West Bank. He reiterated Qatar's commitment to a political solution and support for US President Donald Trump's plan concerning the Gaza Strip.
Finally, Dr. Al Ansari discussed the economic implications of the regional events, highlighting the significant role of regional countries in global energy supply and other critical sectors, affecting the global economy.
