Doha: Qatari newspapers, in their Thursday editorials, addressed a number of local and international issues. Most notably, Qatar's condemnation of the mistreatment and abuse of activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla detained by Israeli authorities, carried out in front of the whole world to see. This act clearly demonstrates the extent of the violations suffered by Palestinians living under occupation and apartheid for decades. Qatar stressed that such actions reflect a systematic Israeli policy that disregards human dignity, international law, and reactions of the international community.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers also highlighted Qatar's repeated emphasis on the importance of keeping international maritime corridors open and secure in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. This includes taking immediate steps to remove any naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz and to halt their deployment, as well as ceasing the imposition of fees on commercial vessels, because protecting the global economy and energy security is a shared international responsibility.
On the local front, the newspapers noted the signing of agreements by QatarEnergy with BG International Limited to acquire participating interests in three offshore exploration areas off the coast of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. The move, it noted, strengthens Qatar's role in the global energy sector and helps meet market demand for gas, particularly amid the growing reliance on natural gas as a transitional clean-energy source. Thus, this represents a crucial step in Qatar's strategic economic growth and reinforces its vital position in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market.
Al-Raya newspaper said in its editorial that it is unsurprising that the criminal Israeli occupation had descended to such low levels of brutality, referencing the Israeli National Security Minister's abuse of Global Sumud Flotilla activists held by Israeli authorities. The paper said that anyone who has witnessed the ongoing Israeli massacres against civilians, women, children, and medical personnel in Gaza and the Palestinian territories would not be shocked to see an extremist minister in a criminal government participating in acts of torture and humiliation against peace activists from around the world. The activists, out of their human dignity and conscience, chose not to comply with the blockade of Gaza, the starvation of its population, and the use of food and medicine, methods used to break Palestinian resilience.
Al-Raya pointed to Qatar's condemnation of the abuse of activists who are citizens of countries that have ties with Israel. The mistreatment exposes the extent of violations suffered by Palestinians under occupation and apartheid for decades. Qatar stressed this should not be seen as an isolated incident but part of the broader issue of the systematic Israeli policy that pays no regard to human dignity, international law, or international reactions.
Al-Raya concluded by calling on the international community to act urgently to stop Israeli provocations and inhumane treatment of detained activists and to secure their immediate and unconditional release. Israel seeks to send a message of intimidation and warning to all free people around the world that standing with the unarmed Palestinians comes at the cost of torture, abuse, and even death. However, the activists, it added, had repeatedly affirmed that Israeli practices would only strengthen their determination to deliver their humanitarian message calling for the end of the unjust siege and justice for the Palestinian people, who are suffering under the longest-running occupation on earth.
For its part, Al-Sharq newspaper noted in its editorial that, amid escalating violations against the Palestinian people, Qatar continues to affirm its steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, based on its belief in the Palestinian people's right to freedom, dignity, and the establishment of an independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two-state solution and international law. This stance is evident in its ongoing political and humanitarian efforts, along with its clear condemnation of Israeli practices that violate international laws and norms.
The newspaper stated that Qatar condemned the abuse by the Israeli National Security Minister of activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla detained by Israeli authorities, describing it as inhumane and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. It also stressed that the abuse inflicted on the activists, despite them being citizens of countries that have ties with Israel, in front of the world, clearly reveals the extent of suffering and violations endured by Palestinians under occupation and apartheid for decades.
Al-Sharq added that Qatar's position reflects its continued commitment to defending legitimate Palestinian rights and rejecting any practices that violate human dignity or disregard the principles of international justice. At the same time, the paper said, the silence of much of the international community regarding events happening in Palestine highlights the double standards in addressing humanitarian and human rights issues.
Al-Sharq concluded by calling on the world to adopt concrete measures to confront violations and crimes, hold Israel accountable, protect civilians, and support the Palestinian people's right to live in freedom, security, and peace.
