Preparations for the eighth edition of the International Return Film Festival, which will be called the “South Africa Edition”, have been completed. 93 films from 31 countries have been received, all of which dealt with Palestinian national issues, most notably the issue of Jerusalem, refugees and prisoners.
The head of the festival’s preparatory committee in the West Bank, Abdullah Musleh, said that the eighth session of the festival will be held on 8/1/2024 in Australia, Cairo, Morocco, the West Bank, and among the displacement tents in Mawasi Khan Yunis.
Musleh added that the festival presents an international event in light of the exceptional circumstances that Palestine is experiencing, and leaves an artistic space for cultural and cognitive exchange, and attracts creative actors, directors, writers and filmmakers from inside and outside the Arab world to display their artistic and creative works in a cinematic panorama to compete among themselves to obtain the Key of Return Award, according to criter
ia carefully set by the jury, which consists of: the distinguished artist Abeer Issa, head of the jury, the film critic Laila Balrahoma, a member of the jury from Tunisia, and the media and filmmaker Nabila Razayek, a member of the jury from Algeria.
He pointed out that the festival offers many awards to the winning films, including: the Return Key Award for the best film that talks about the right of return in the name of the freedom fighter Nelson Mandela, the Return Key Award for the best film that talks about the issue of prisoners in the name of the martyred prisoner Walid Daqqa, the Return Key Award for the best film that talks about humanity in the name of Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and the Return Key Award for the best film that talks about the issue of Jerusalem in the name of the late Faisal Al-Husseini.
