Preparations for Putin-Trump Summit Still in Early Stages, Says Russian Deputy Foreign Minister

Moscow: Preparations for a potential summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump are still in the early stages, according to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

According to Qatar News Agency, Ryabkov emphasized that any agreement to hold such a meeting would require extensive preparatory work. He noted that the process has already begun, with recent negotiations in Riyadh serving as a crucial step forward. These talks are seen as a significant element in the broader effort to normalize relations between the two countries and address critical issues, including the situation in Ukraine.

The deputy foreign minister also highlighted that the primary goal of the potential summit would be to start moving towards normalizing bilateral relations and finding solutions to the most pressing and dangerous issues, of which there are many, including Ukraine. Ryabkov reiterated Russia’s readiness to engage in practical discussions with the United States and welcomed the shift in tone from Washington.

The high-level US-Russia talks held in Riyadh on Tuesday marked a significant step in this direction, with both sides agreeing to work on creating conditions for resuming cooperation and expanding it into new areas of mutual interest.
