Phone call between the President and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer

Ramallah – Ma’an – A phone call took place today, Sunday, between President Mahmoud Abbas and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The President congratulated the new British Prime Minister on the occasion of his party, the Labour Party, winning the British parliamentary elections, forming the new British government, and starting his duties.

The President expressed his confidence that the formation of the new British government would contribute to strengthening the friendly relations and joint cooperation between the two friendly countries and peoples, wishing his government success and prosperity in order to achieve progress and prosperity for his country.

The President briefed the British Prime Minister on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, and the immediate need to respond to international efforts to cease fire, allow humanitarian aid in, withdraw Israeli occupation forces from the entire Gaza Strip, and release Palestinian funds withheld by Israel.

The President stressed his readi
ness to work with the British Prime Minister to make peace, through the two-state solution based on international legitimacy, calling for the importance of Britain’s recognition of the State of Palestine.

In turn, British Prime Minister Starmer renewed his country’s positions in support of a ceasefire, providing humanitarian aid, releasing hostages, and the importance of releasing the withheld Palestinian funds.

He stressed the importance of the Palestinian government continuing its reform programmes and his readiness to work with it and receive its Prime Minister, noting that British Foreign Secretary David Lammy will soon visit Palestine to continue political discussions and strengthen cooperation relations between the two countries.

The President and the British Prime Minister agreed to continue coordination and communication to follow up on the issues raised and strengthen bilateral relations.
