PHCC and EHSAN Collaborate to Enhance Health Education for Older Adults

Doha:Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has organized a series of health education sessions for older adults in partnership with the Center for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (EHSAN).

According to Qatar News Agency, four sessions took place at EHSAN clubs in September, focusing on healthy aging, chronic disease prevention, and cardiovascular health. These sessions were part of PHCC's initiative to provide preventive health education beyond clinical settings, making it more accessible to older individuals.

Dr. Maryam Al Emadi, Director of Clinical Operations and Senior Consultant in Family Medicine at PHCC, emphasized that the partnership with EHSAN aims to improve the health and quality of life of older adults, helping them maintain independence. Dr. Sarah Rashid Musa, Manager of Health Education and Consultant in Community Medicine at PHCC, highlighted the importance of prevention, early identification of risk factors, and healthy lifestyle practices in achieving healthy aging.

The sessions addressed common conditions affecting older adults, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and chronic respiratory conditions. Participants learned about risk factors and received guidance on nutrition, physical activity, sleep, psychological wellbeing, smoking cessation, medication adherence, vaccination, and preventive screening. They were also encouraged to monitor health indicators like blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, and weight.

Dr. Musa noted that small, sustainable changes, like increasing daily movement and reducing salt intake, could lead to long-term health benefits. Interactive activities included identifying individual risk factors, building a healthy plate, and discussing safe physical activities.

PHCC's ongoing collaboration with EHSAN supports strengthening preventive care and community engagement, aligning with Qatar National Vision 2030, the National Health Strategy, and PHCC's Corporate Strategic Plan 2024-2030.
