The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) has organized a panel discussion to mark the International Workers Day with the participation of representatives of the offices of Indian, African, Bengali and Philippines communities.
Director of Legal Affairs at the NHRC Nasser Marzouq Al Marri underscored the committee’s commitment to protect and promote human rights, including rights of workers whom he considered the arms of development and building the civilizations.
Workers in the State of Qatar were and have been the most important partners in the urban renaissance the country has been witnessing during the recent decade, Al Marri underlined, adding that their role has been significantly influential in the development and sustainability the State of Qatar has attained, in light of the wise vision of the wise leadership in the country that laid the foundation to ensure enjoyment of all fundamental rights by its citizens.
He hailed the great role made by the workers who rendered the facilities of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament unique to the State of Qatar compared to all previous editions of the World Cup, which made the task difficult for the subsequent international competitions in all kinds of sports.
The NHRC has been keen to come out from the tournament with a scene that represents a model for human rights, and this is aided by the engagement of all relevant institutions in Qatar in achieving this supreme objective, Director of Legal Affairs at the NHRC added, which affirmed that the culture of protecting human rights dignity is deeply rooted in the Qatari community, government and people.
Director of Legal Affairs at the NHRC explained that the International Workers Day is an important station to explore Qatar’s efforts in the area of protecting workers’ rights, and its future vision to safeguard its legacy in this field, adding that the event is a day where country pays tribute to its workers in appreciation of their efforts in building the homelands.
For his part, Representative of the office of the Indian community at NHRC Santosh Kumar Pillai said the International Workers Day indicates the importance of workers’ rights and their movement in all over the world.
The Indian community in the State of Qatar is celebrating this day through communicating with Blue-collar workers and conduct free-of-charge health tests, open blood-donation camps and cultural events in the Industrial Area under the patronage of Embassy of India in Qatar, Pillai noted.
Officials from various miniseries are participating with the Indian community to address workers community, and seize the opportunity of this convergence to introduce the workers to the new legislative developments, along with the culture of Qatari community, he pointed out.
He indicated that representatives of the Indian community are paying visits to the workers assembly points and educate them based on the legislative developments, safety, health and hygiene.
The communities offices at NHRC’s headquarters helped the Embassy of India in dramatically curbing the challenges facing the workers, he added.
