The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, called on the central government to implement the Supreme Criminal Court’s decision, which considered the Anfal “a war crime and ethnic genocide.”

A statement issued by the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region, on Friday, said, “Today marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of the Anfal crimes committed by the former Iraqi regime, in the year 1988, against the Kurdistan Region and its people.”

He added: “We remember with great reverence more than 182,000 Anfal martyrs, and we bow before their pure souls and salute their proud families.”

The President of the Kurdistan Region stressed: “The Iraqi government must” compensate the families of the Anfal in all respects and implement the decision of the Iraqi Supreme Criminal Court, which considered the Anfal a crime of ethnic genocide and a war crime.” / End
