NATO Appoints Mark Rutte as Secretary General

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on Wednesday appointed Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte as the next Secretary General of NATO, succeeding Jens Stoltenberg.

Rutte will assume his functions as Secretary General from Oct. 1, 2024, when Stoltenberg’s term expires after ten years at the helm of the alliance.

Rutte is going to be NATO’s 4th Dutch Secretary General since its founding following World War II.
