MOPH Warns against some “Abbot” Milk Formulas

Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) has warned against certain powdered baby formulas made by (Abbott) company of origin in the United States, which are (Similac Human Milk Fortifier, Elecare, Elecare JR) due to the potential bacterial contamination of some batches of these products with Salmonella and Chronobacter bacteria. The MOPH recommends consumers to avoid buying or using these products in order to preserve the health of their children.

The Ministry has taken the necessary measures as soon as it received a notification from The International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN) regarding the potential contamination of the mentioned baby milk formulas. The precautionary measures included recalling and suspending the sale of these products and referring samples of them for laboratory analysis. Moreover, samples of similar imported products were also taken for lab analysis. The Ministry points out that the shops distributing these suspected contaminated products are limited due to the nature of these products. The Ministry of Public Health states that no health cases linked to these milk formulas have been recorded in the State.
