Doha: The Ministry of Public Health has issued a warning to the public regarding the purchase, distribution, or consumption of an unauthorized slimming product that contains undisclosed pharmaceutical substances.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry's statement specifically identified "Eatless - Natural Slimming Formula" as containing two hidden pharmaceutical compounds, Sibutramine and Phenolphthalein. This revelation categorizes the product as counterfeit and highlights the associated risks to public health. The product, heavily promoted on social media platforms, lacks licensing in the State of Qatar.

Collaborating with relevant entities in Qatar, the Ministry is implementing necessary control, regulatory, and legal actions to safeguard public health. Sibutramine, previously a controlled medicinal substance, was removed from the market in October 2010 due to safety concerns. It poses significant risks, including elevated blood pressure and heart rate, and can be particularly dangerous for individuals with pre-existing heart conditions or stroke history.

Additionally, Sibutramine may interact adversely with other medications, leading to potentially life-threatening complications. Phenolphthalein, another compound in the product, is not recognized as an active ingredient in any approved drug and has been linked to an increased cancer risk, further raising health concerns.

The Ministry advises the public against purchasing unregistered products or from unauthorized sources, especially those advertised on social media under misleading labels like "100% natural," "safe," or "pharmaceutical-free," as these claims do not guarantee product safety or the absence of hidden pharmaceutical ingredients.
