Doha: October 08 – The “Moments of Being” exhibition opened its doors Tuesday at Al Markhiya Gallery at Katara Art Center.
Featuring Qatari artists Ahmed Al Jufairi and Fatima Mohammed, “Moments of Being” marks the latest edition as part of the “40 Minus” series of exhibitions, a key initiative in Al Markhiya Gallery’s annual program.
The two artists aimed through more than 30 artworks to reflect people’s viewpoints and ways of managing different emotions they come to face, as well as dispel the stigma associated with discussing mental health issues publicly.
“Moments of Being” touches on the relationship between art and different aspects of the human mind as each artwork gives a glimpse of the artist’s psychological state to invoke strong feelings out of the visitors since many find it difficult to talk about them in public.
Coinciding with World Mental Health Day, the exhibition pushes viewers to form their own opinions and feelings as they experience each artwork, thus encouraging deeper dialogue on th
e topic and pushing them to connect with their inner feelings and challenge them to express them.
Artistic coordinator at Al Markhiya Gallery Anas Iqtait told Qatar News Agency that through the “40 Minus” series, the gallery presents works by Arab artists under the age of 40 whose art demonstrates hope and great promise.
The series encourages young artists to develop their skills by providing a professional exhibition experience and an opportunity to work with an experienced art curator. The art event also represents an important communication platform by providing opportunities for artists to interact with the public, he added.
