Ministry of Social Development and Family Holds People with Disabilities’ Service Improvement Workshops

Doha, The Ministry of Social Development and Family concluded a series of technical workshops to improve the efficiency and quality of services provided to people with disabilities, in the presence of HE Minister of Social Development and Family Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, along with an Arab League delegation headed by Head of the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs Tariq Al Nabulsi.

The Ministry of Social Development and Family organized the workshops in cooperation with the Ministries of Public Health and Education and Higher Education, in addition to the Secretariat General of the Arab League. The workshop series emphasized the relevant authorities’ responsibility to empower people with disabilities and integrate them into society, shedding light on the State of Qatar’s pivotal role in supporting and caring for people with disabilities locally and internationally.

Participants focused in their discussions on ways to enhance the rights and opportunities of people with disabilities to improve and advance their lives, with an emphasis on cooperation and joint efforts to develop plans and programs to that end.

Director of the Social Welfare Department at the Ministry of Social Development and Family Reem Al Ajmi noted the State of Qatar’s achievements in supporting and caring for people with disabilities, especially in the fields of education, social security, housing, employment, among others, all within the framework of laws and legislation fully protecting their rights.

Al Ajami said that the workshops set broad guidelines to unify the efforts of various institutions in Qatar in order to improve the services dedicated to people with disabilities nationally, adding that these workshops are only the beginning of engaging people with disabilities to make a positive change.

Director of the Social Welfare Department at the Ministry of Social Development and Family pointed out that the State of Qatar has ratified the agreements concerned with supporting the rights of people with disabilities and socially empowering, particularly in terms of job opportunities and social rights.

She stressed Qatar’s keenness on guaranteeing the rights of persons with disabilities on all levels, harnessing technology in service of this significant social segment, putting forth recommendations to employ people with disabilities in all sectors of the economy, public or private alike.
