Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) has launched the 'smart observer' project. In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry highlighted that the project involves deploying a remotely operated boat equipped with advanced systems to monitor environmental changes and collect data and samples from marine sites.

According to Qatar News Agency, this initiative is a part of MECC's efforts to enhance environmental monitoring and improve data collection efficiency. The 'smart observer' enables continuous monitoring, environmental surveys, sample collection, and measurement activities, all while covering wider marine environment areas and gathering data more quickly and accurately, thereby improving resource efficiency.

MECC emphasized that the project reflects its commitment to leveraging modern technologies to protect the marine environment and advance the digital transformation of environmental monitoring. The use of this technology allows for the gathering of accurate, real-time data, thus enabling specialists to track environmental changes and make informed decisions.

The Ministry further noted that the 'smart observer' project supports the objectives of the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030 in the areas of environmental sustainability and innovation. The project also contributes to advancing environmental data collection and management systems, while helping to protect the marine environment and ensure the sustainable use of its natural resources for future generations.
