Mexico Flood Death Toll Rises to 44

Doha: The death toll from floods caused by heavy rains in recent days in Mexico has risen to 44, leaving widespread devastation across the country. Mexican authorities reported that many areas, particularly mountainous regions, are cut off by avalanches or rising water levels, while relief workers struggle to reach them.

According to Qatar News Agency, weather conditions today allow for faster progress and airlifts to communities that remain isolated, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said in a post on X platform. Approximately 10,000 troops have been deployed to rescue stranded residents and deliver food to affected communities.

Mexico recorded unusually heavy rainfall in 2025, with the highest rainfall ever recorded in the capital, Mexico City. Authorities are closely monitoring areas off the Pacific coast due to tropical storms Raymond and Priscilla, which have weakened from Category 2 hurricanes but are still dumping heavy rains on the western part of the country, causing damage in the states of Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Michoacan.
