Medical technology company Fontaine Life is seeking to use artificial intelligence to scan coronary arteries to detect the risk of a heart attack 3, 5, or even 10 years before the onset of symptoms.
A surgeon and CEO of Fontaine Life in Florida Bill Kapp said a simple outpatient procedure that takes less than an hour can help screen for heart attacks.
“Then we will know the full health of the arteries, including the amount of plaque inside the arteries,” said Kapp.
“Artificial intelligence can see exactly how much sediment there is, and whether it is calcified (stable), or high risk, by looking for things that humans cant see,” he added.
Kapp added that in addition to identifying signs of danger, the test also provides a pathway for people to screen for heart disease. And the doctor added that the coronary artery examination with artificial intelligence, which was conducted by the company, provides a non-surgical alternative to “catheterization”, which is a more expensive procedure that involves inserting a catheter into the artery.
Kapp explained that most diseases – including diabetes and heart disease – do not show symptoms until they reach late stages.
