Jakarta: An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck on Tuesday off the coast of Sumatra Island, Indonesia. The event has drawn attention to the region's seismic activity, though initial reports indicate minimal immediate impact.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 29 kilometers. At this time, there have been no reports of casualties or material damage, and no tsunami warnings have been issued.
Indonesia frequently experiences earthquakes due to its location along the Pacific "Ring of Fire," a zone characterized by the convergence of multiple tectonic plates. This geological feature results in frequent volcanic and seismic activity across the country.
