An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck on Thursday the Kokopo district in Papua New Guinea.
The US Geological Survey reported that the epicenter was 166 km southwest of Kokopo, at a depth of 35 km.
So far, there have been no reports of human or material losses due to the earthquake.
Papua New Guinea is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, where many volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occur. This region includes 90 percent of the active volcanoes in the world. In February 2018, it witnessed a devastating earthquake that killed at least 100 people, and caused landslides that buried dozens of villages.
