Libya and EU Explore Strengthened Collaboration for Future Development

Tripoli: Libya’s Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs, Walid Al-Lafi, engaged in discussions with the European Union (EU) Representative in Libya, Nicolas Orland, focusing on enhancing the strategic partnership between Libya and the EU. The talks aimed at developing a comprehensive action plan targeting 2025 to bolster joint cooperation.

According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting evaluated the outcomes of recent engagements between the EU, the Joint Economic Group, and the 5+5 Joint Military Committee. The discussions also addressed how regional dynamics affect Libya and explored regional issues that hold mutual interest for both parties. A significant point of these discussions was the reinforcement of the Government of National Unity’s stance on the imperative need to proceed directly to elections, which is seen as critical for concluding all transitional phases.

Libya’s presidential and legislative elections, initially scheduled for December 2021, were postponed indefinitely due to unresolved disputes among political factions. The meeting underscored the importance of addressing these delays to stabilize Libya’s political landscape and facilitate future collaborative efforts with the EU.
