Jordan Considers Targeting UNRWA a Plan to End Palestinian Cause

The Jordanian government said that the Israeli attempt to politically assassinate the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) forms part of a larger plan to end the Palestinian cause.

In a joint press conference with UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi stressed the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza against the backdrop of the continuation of the Israeli aggression on the Strip, emphasizing the inadequacy of the humanitarian aid entering Gaza in meeting the Palestinian people’s minimum needs.

Safadi underscored Jordan’s continued support for UNRWA, noting the Agency’s ability to fulfill its duties towards the inhabitants of Gaza.

Meanwhile, Lazzarini mentioned that around 17,000 children in Gaza are now orphaned, with another 20,000 still missing. He noted the deaths of at least 190 UNRWA employees due to the Israeli aggression, which damaged more than half of UNRWA’s facilities.

The UNRWA Commissione
r-General considered that UNRWA in Gaza is facing blatant and intense aggression, demanding to hold those responsible for this aggression accountable, adding that the Agency’s financial situation remains precarious and that with its current resources, UNRWA is only able to maintain its operations until the end of August.
