Amman – Ma’an – The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned in the strongest terms, on Tuesday, the systematic Israeli targeting of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and its buildings and shelters, including the agency’s headquarters in Gaza, in an attempt to cancel its pivotal and essential role in providing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in accordance with its international mandate.
The official spokesman for the ministry, Ambassador Sufyan Al-Qudah, stressed the Kingdom’s condemnation and absolute rejection of Israel’s continued violation of the rules of international law and international humanitarian law, and targeting civilians, relief organizations’ headquarters and workers, amid international silence that encourages it to continue doing so, due to the absence of real and effective measures to stop these violations and hold those responsible accountable.
Ambassador Qudah added that Israel’s attempts to undermine the role of U
NRWA, which plays a fundamental role in providing vital services to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, must be confronted by the entire international community, stressing that the continuation of UNRWA’s work is an absolute necessity to preserve the Palestinian refugee issue, especially in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Strip since October 7.
Ambassador Al-Qudah renewed his call to the international community, especially the Security Council, to take immediate and decisive steps to stop these crimes and provide protection to Palestinian civilians and relief facilities that provide vital support to them, stressing the need to enable these organizations and bodies, especially UNRWA, to carry out its major humanitarian role in providing humanitarian aid and services to the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip, and to ensure its safety from any future targeting.
