Tokyo:Japan's Nikkei index retreated on Thursday, facing pressure from a significant sell-off in artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor-related stocks.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Nikkei closed 1.8 percent lower due to losses among chip-manufacturing equipment companies. Shares of Advantest fell 14.7 percent, while Tokyo Electron shares dropped 9.4 percent.
Meanwhile, the broader Topix index experienced a rise of 1.2 percent, with 25 out of 33 sectors advancing. The increase was led by the transport equipment and real estate sectors.
