Baghdad: The Iraqi Cabinet convened on Wednesday and set Nov. 11, 2025, as the date for holding the legislative elections, according to the media office of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani.
According to Qatar News Agency, in March, Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced the commencement of the voter registry update process, noting that it would span a period of one month. IHEC affirmed that nearly 30 million citizens are eligible to cast their ballots in the forthcoming parliamentary elections, declaring its full preparedness to ensure the electoral process is conducted on schedule.
In addition, IHEC indicated that registration centers across the governorates are presently engaged in biometric enrollment of voters, as part of broader preparations for the upcoming elections, which are slated to be held 45 days prior to the expiration of the current parliamentary term. IHEC constituted higher-level committees to oversee the electoral process, both domestically and internationally. It will enjoin the dispatch of invitations to international monitoring teams and furnish them with identification badges to facilitate their presence at polling centers across all governorates.
The commission further indicated that all devices employed during the elections will be electronic in nature, affirming its readiness to finalize both international and domestic accords for the procurement of electoral materials and the execution of other pertinent technical arrangements.
