Pretoria: South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Saudi Arabia's Al Ahli 2-1 on Saturday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
According to Qatar News Agency, Portuguese forward Nuno Santos scored both of Sundowns' goals, in the 17th and 80th minutes. Al Ahli's goal came in the 19th minute when Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams put the ball into his own net.
The victory gave Sundowns the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup and sent them through to the next stage of the competition. They will face Mexican club Toluca, the Concacaf champions, or the 2026 Copa Libertadores winner in the FIFA Challenger Cup. The winner will advance to the final against Paris Saint-Germain, the defending European champions.
This was Al Ahli's second consecutive appearance in the competition. The Saudi club was eliminated by Egypt's Pyramids FC in the previous edition before opening this year's campaign with a 1-0 victory over Auckland FC.
