India and the 15-member Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have agreed to organize an annual trade summit to discuss ways to support trade and economic cooperation between the two sides.
In remarks during his visit to the group’s headquarters in Guyana, Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said that his country had agreed with CARICOM countries to hold an annual trade summit, pointing out that its convening would alternate between India and a Caribbean country.
During the visit, President of the Industrial Confederation of India Jai Shroff called for more cooperation between his country, the Caribbean and Latin America, saying that India, Latin America and the Caribbean share common aspirations and challenges.
He also added that the Indian industry is striving to strengthen its presence in the Latin American markets, noting that there are multiple areas of cooperation, especially after the recent discoveries of oil and gas in the region, in addition to other areas such as agriculture and food production.
