Imprisonment replaced with alternative sanctions for 210 inmates

Manama, The General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing has replaced the imprisonment of 210 inmates of the Reform and Rehabilitation Centre after studying the cases and implementing the legal requirements.

The move is in line with the royal directives to expand the implementation of the Alternative Sanctions and Measures Law and consider the social and humanitarian conditions of the inmates.

The cases have been selected in coordination with the Public Prosecution and the list of the nominated inmates has been referred for the judge for approval.

Also, 47 inmates have joined the Open Prisons Programme, bringing the total number of beneficiaries from the law since its inception to 6,702.

The Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing Director-General Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa affirmed continuous implementation of the royal directives to enforce the law as an added value for the protection of human rights in Bahrain. He also valued the support of His Royal Highness Pr
ince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for the reintegration of the beneficiaries into the society.

Shaikh Khalid also praised the Interior Minister’s instructions to follow up on the implementation of the law as well as provide rehabilitation and training programmes for the beneficiaries.
