GAZA CITY: The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has issued an appeal to the United Nations to deploy an international mission tasked with investigating alleged serious crimes and violations against Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons and detention centers. This call to action comes amid reports of escalating violence and mistreatment in these facilities.

According to Qatar News Agency, the human rights monitor released a statement on Monday highlighting a pattern of increased violence within Israeli-run prisons following the October 2023 conflict in the Gaza Strip. The organization reported a notable rise in incidents of premeditated murder and torture within these detention centers, marking a significant escalation in the treatment of Palestinian detainees.

The statement from the monitor revealed that three detainees from Gaza were recently confirmed dead, raising the death toll of Palestinian prisoners and detainees to over 50 since October 7, 2023. Of these, 33 were reportedly from the Gaza Strip, underscoring the grave nature of the situation.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor emphasized that the abuses in these facilities are not isolated incidents but rather part of a systematic and widespread pattern. Such actions, the group argues, occur with the perpetrators enjoying near-total immunity from repercussions.

The organization criticized the international community for its perceived inaction and lack of response to documented reports of murder, torture, and maltreatment within Israeli detention centers. This, according to the monitor, has emboldened further violations and allowed them to continue and intensify unchecked.
