HH Shaikh Khalid hails national universities’ support for youth, sports movement


His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), General Sports Authority (GSA) Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President, has affirmed the major role played by national universities in supporting the sports movement in the kingdom.



In this regard, His Highness cited the national universities’ keenness to embrace and organise sports activities, encourage students’ participation in external sports events, and hone the skills of athletes across various sports.



HH Shaikh Khalid made the statements while receiving, at the Al-Wadi Palace in Riffa today, the University of Bahrain (UoB)’s volleyball team, the winners of a gold medal at the University International Sports Festival 2023, in addition to the Taekwondo team, the winners of one gold and two bronze medals at the same event, held recently in Russia.



His Highness Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, GSA Deputy Chairman, Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, GSA’s CEO, Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, UoB President, Fares Mustafa Al-Kooheji, BOC Secretary-General, and Dr. Shaikh Saqr bin Salman Al Khalifa, Bahrain Schools and College Athletic Association President, were present.



HH Shaikh Khalid commended the distinguished achievements of UoB’s volleyball and Taekwondo teams at the international event, congratulating the two teams’ players, as well as the technical and administrative staff on their victories.



His Highness also paid tribute to the Bahrain Schools and Collegiate Athletic Association and UoB for their continuous support for university teams, wishing them continued success.
