HH Shaikh Abdullah: Bahrain committed to implementing environmental initiatives, projects

Manama, Bahrain is committed to continue the implementation of national environmental and climate-related initiatives and projects that are underway, in line with with its commitment to international agreements and treaties on the protection of the environment and wildlife, His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Personal Representative of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the President of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) said.

In a statement on World Environment Day, HH Shaikh Abdullah said that the participation of Bahrain in the celebration of this World Environmental Day is a demonstration of the directives and the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on prioritising environmental and climate issues as key components of sustainable development.

World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5, comes under the theme ‘Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience’ this year.

His Highness added that the Kingdom, through its permanent cooper
ation with the Regional Office for West Asia of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), contributed to achieving many projects aimed at mitigtating environmental and climate challenges.

His Highness lauded the continuous support and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for the environmental and climate projects and initiatives launched by Bahrain, in compliance with to the pledges of the Kingdom at international forums concerned with protecting the environment and countering climate change.

His Highness emphasised the Kingdom of Bahrain’s full support for the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in hosting the United Nations Conference on Land Protection and Combating Desertification and Drought (COP 16) in the capital Riyadh.

His Highness Shaikh Abdullah said that the hosting of COP 16 by Saudi Arabia reflects its pivotal role in unifing regional and international efforts towards achieving the sustainable development goals
(SDGs) related to protecting the environment, enhancing climate security and protecting wildlife.

His Highness underscored the need for collaboration and to continue to share responsibilities among all countries of the world, in order to protect the environment, and support initiatives, programmes and projects aimed at increasing green spaces and urban development, for a sustainable present and a future that enjoys the prosperity of biodiversity and wildlife in our world.
