Gulf U-17 Cup: Qatar Tops Group A with Win Over UAE

Doha: Qatar’s U-17 national team secured a 2-0 victory over the United Arab Emirates on Saturday, clinching the top spot in Group A of the Gulf Cup for U-17 teams. The match was held at Grand Hamad Stadium and marked the final round of group-stage play in the tournament, which is hosted by Qatar and runs through October 3.

According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar took an early lead just three minutes into the first half, when Muhannad Jameel headed home a cross from the left flank. Zaid Faisal doubled the advantage in the 27th minute, converting a low delivery inside the box with a composed finish.

With the win, Qatar finished the group stage with nine points from three consecutive victories, three points ahead of the UAE, which had already secured a place in the semifinals. Qatar will face Saudi Arabia in the semifinal on September 30, while Iraq is set to play the UAE.

The tournament draw placed host nation Qatar at the head of Group A, alongside the UAE, Oman, and Yemen. Group B includes Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain, and Kuwait. The semifinals will be played in a knockout format on September 30, with the final scheduled for October 3 at Grand Hamad Stadium.
