Grenada Prime Minister Affirms Strong Relations with Qatar

Doha: Prime Minister of Grenada Dickon Mitchell affirmed the strength of relations between his country and the State of Qatar, describing them as very good and continually improving.

According to Qatar News Agency, HE the Prime Minister of Grenada highlighted that his official visit to Qatar provided an opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation and exchange views on several issues of mutual interest. He discussed his meeting with HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, where they explored ways to support and develop bilateral cooperation, particularly in education, healthcare, and tourism.

His Excellency noted the importance of bilateral cooperation amid current regional circumstances, emphasizing Qatar's international influence in diplomacy, sustainable economic development, and the energy sector. He considered these areas promising for collaboration between the two nations.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of strengthening ties between Grenada and the Caribbean with Qatar, focusing on education, sports, and economic development. He emphasized the need for cooperation beyond government-to-government interactions, involving the private sectors of both countries.

Discussions also included aviation and leveraging Qatar Airways' success to boost travel between Qatar and Grenada, as well as the Caribbean and Latin America. Talks covered negotiations for a double taxation agreement and a trade and investment promotion agreement.

His Excellency mentioned the necessity of a supportive legal framework to encourage private sector investment and trade. He highlighted human capital development as crucial for growth, citing opportunities in education, particularly with Grenada's veterinary university collaborating with Qatar's Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

In healthcare, HE Mitchell revealed plans for a major new hospital and expressed Grenada's interest in partnering with Qatar in this sector. He underscored the importance of public and private partnerships to develop healthcare.

Discussing regional and international cooperation, the Grenadian Prime Minister emphasized the significance of mutual interests amid geopolitical changes, highlighting shared concerns like climate change and the transition from fossil fuels.

HE Mitchell praised Qatar's diplomatic role globally, including in the Caribbean and the Americas, and expressed Grenada's support for Qatar's endeavors. Looking to the future, he expressed hope for stronger bilateral ties, noting the expected presentation of credentials by Qatar's ambassador to Grenada.

Concluding, HE Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell reaffirmed Grenada's commitment to expanding relations with Qatar in ways that benefit both nations and champion shared values such as human rights, cultural respect, responsible economic growth, and peaceful negotiations.
