GCC States Reiterate Commitment to Combating All Forms of Violence Against Women and Girls

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) States have reiterated their firm commitment to combating all forms of violence against women and girls and their firm stance against exploitation, abuse and discrimination.

This came in a statement delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Dr. Hind bint Abdulrahman Al Muftah on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, in her capacity as Chair of the Gulf Group, during the interactive dialogue on the report of the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, and girls, within the framework of the 56th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The GCC States made clear that their commitment remains steadfast in protecting society and all its components, especially women, to prevent all forms of violence against them, noting that they have established comprehensive legal frameworks, effective law enforcement mechanisms, and enhanced support systems for survivors
of violence.

The GCC States underlined the importance of reports and recommendations being consistent with cultural and social specificities and taking into account the inherent right of states to adopt laws that reflect their specificities and cultural, social and legal contexts.

The GCC States expressed their gratitude to the Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls for her valuable contributions, and her commitment to constructive cooperation with her and all stakeholders to advance the rights and protection of women and girls globally.
