GCC Secretary-General: Upcoming GCC-EU Meeting Due to Discuss Promoting Bilateral Relations

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Muhammad Al Budaiwi said the joint GCC-EU Ministerial Meeting next October is due to discuss several topics to promote relations between the two sides.

This came during his meeting on Wednesday with EU Special Representative (EUSR) for the Gulf region, Luigi di Maio at the General Secretariat of the GCC headquarters in Riyadh.

The two sides discussed the agenda of the joint GCC-EU Ministerial Meeting, as the Secretary-General of GCC affirmed that GCC and European Union seek to elevate cooperation and upgrade relations among them, stemming from the EU-GCC Cooperation Agreement that was previously signed.

He said Luigi di Maio expressed the EU’s regret, rejection and condemnation of the incidence of burning the Holy Qur’an in Sweden, adding that the EU, in its statement issued on this incidence, mentioned that such an incidence does not, in any way, reflect the EU’s opinions.
