Gaza Electricity Distribution Company Loses 80 Percent of Equipment, Initial Losses Reach USD450 Million

Gaza: The Gaza Electricity Distribution Company announced that the losses inflicted upon it by the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip have reached 80 percent of its infrastructure and operational capacity.

According to Qatar News Agency, addressing a press conference on Saturday, spokesperson for the company, Mohammed Thabit, stated that the company is capable of recommissioning critical facilities in the enclave once the Gaza ceasefire deal enters into force, highlighting that the initial value of losses in sites accessed by the company’s staffers amounted to approximately USD 450 million.

The number of damaged aerial electricity transformers reached 1,980, while the damaged ground transformers reached nearly 125, in addition to most facilities, depots, and vehicles that were partially and entirely destroyed, highlighted Thabit.

He stressed that the company is tirelessly working to restore power grid to the critical facilities to help them provide other emergency relief and humanitarian services to the Palestinians, highlighting that the company has plans in place to repair all damaged parts of the grid to be recommissioned at the earliest.

He pointed out that the restoration of power grid hinges upon delivering maintenance paraphernalia, alongside the requirements that should be in place to operate part of the power grid.
