Gaza: The Gaza Civil Defense announced that 75% of its total fleet of vehicles has been rendered inoperative across all cities of the enclave due to the complete depletion of fuel necessary for their operation, further exacerbating the paralysis of emergency response capabilities under the ongoing blockade.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Civil Defense reported in a statement on Sunday that, with the mounting Israeli bombardment of residential buildings, it has become unable to respond to the Palestinians’ distress calls due to the dearth of logistical capacity, foremost of which is fuel, heavy rescue equipment, spare parts, and vehicle repair essentials.
Fuel crises are aggravated day after day by the ongoing Israeli blockade on the deliveries of fuel quantities required to operate the trucks, even at the bare minimum, to ensure the continuity of its humanitarian services, the statement said.
The Civil Defense warned that within 72 hours, all services provided by its vehicles will cease to exist, and rescuers will be unable to conduct their humanitarian mission unless ample fuel supplies are delivered, even at the bare minimum.
Humanitarian and utility services in the Gaza Strip are grappling with virtual collapse as the Israeli offensive on the enclave continues unabated, with the blockade imposed on life-saving aid and key materials required to operate hospitals.
The materials include fuel, medical devices, heavy trucks, and rescue equipment, which had been destroyed by the Israeli occupation forces by setting fire, crippling all those sectors and rendering them unable to respond to the distress calls in the enclave.
