Gaza – Ma’an – Amidst the bombing and destruction, the Kuwait Red Crescent field hospital in Khan Younis, affiliated with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, stands as a living example of humanity in the darkest of circumstances. This hospital, which was established in difficult circumstances and in an unprecedented record time, on May 28, 2024, and began its experimental work on June 12, 2024, the hospital began operating as a rapid response to the Israeli occupation forces’ invasion of the city of Rafah and the increasing urgent medical need.
Despite the almost impossible conditions of operation in the Gaza Strip, the hospital operates with advanced operational capabilities, including 52 beds, 32 of which are inpatient, 8 intensive care beds, 6 nursery beds, 5 emergency beds, in addition to an operating room and a recovery room.
The hospital is bustling with activity and movement, with more than 140 employees working there, forming an integrated team of doctors, nurses, administrators and technicians, a
ll of whom are 100% Palestinian Red Crescent cadres.
Kuwait Integrated Field Red Crescent
Dr. Haidar Al-Qudra, Executive Director of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society in the Gaza Strip, describes the Kuwaiti field hospital as more advanced than other field hospitals, due to its advantages of having an infrastructure consisting of intensive care, a nursery for premature babies, and a fully-integrated operating room.
Dr. Al-Qudra says: We currently receive cases from the public directly, or by transferring them from other hospitals, including Al-Amal Hospital, affiliated with the Palestinian Red Crescent, which transfers cases that need intensive care to the Kuwaiti hospital. Thus, the field hospital constitutes an addition to health work in general and to Al-Amal Hospital in particular.
He added: This hospital is staffed by Palestinian Red Crescent cadres, whether doctors, nurses, administrators or technicians, 100% Palestinian cadres, numbering more than 140 employees, with an average of 40 employees p
er day.
The Executive Director of the Red Crescent Society hopes that the Kuwaiti Red Crescent will establish a field hospital similar to the Kuwaiti field hospital in the Gaza Strip, due to the Al-Quds Hospital being out of service as a result of the Israeli army storming it and destroying its contents, as well as the fact that many hospitals in the Strip are out of service.
It is worth noting that the Kuwait Red Crescent field hospital came as a generous donation from the Kuwait Red Crescent, and there was a promise from the Egyptian Red Crescent to bring Egyptian specialists and consultants with special skills to work inside the hospital, especially complex cases, but due to the closure of the crossings, the Egyptian crews have not entered until now.

Dr. Anwar Al-Ghara, Medical Director of the Kuwait Red Crescent Hospital, says that the importance of the field hospital lies in its inclusion of nurseries and an intensive care unit, which are considered a treasure
in times of war. He added, ‘All government ministerial hospitals are crowded with injuries and there is no room for any patient, so cases are transferred from hospitals to our intensive care beds.’
Dr. Al-Ghara added, ‘We started performing surgeries a few weeks ago. Currently, we have 8 to 10 pediatric and general surgery cases almost daily.’
As the war and bloodshed continue, the Kuwait Red Crescent Field Hospital in Khan Younis remains a shining example of the strength of human will. With a dedicated spirit and loyal hearts, this medical facility defies all obstacles to give hope and life to many lives.
Since its inception, it has not only been a hospital, but a true embodiment of the meaning of solidarity and cooperation in the face of crises. Through its fully Palestinian staff, the hospital proves that nobility and altruism know no bounds.
