France Reports First Case of Ebola Virus Infection

Doha: France announced on Wednesday that it has recorded its first case of Ebola virus infection.

According to Qatar News Agency, the announcement was made by the French Ministry of Health in a statement, indicating that this first case involves a doctor who returned from a humanitarian mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which is currently experiencing a large-scale outbreak.

The ministry said that the approved health measures for dealing with such cases have been activated, including the immediate isolation of the patient in a specialized medical facility and the launch of thorough contact-tracing procedures for individuals who may have been exposed.

The patient is receiving the necessary medical care, while precautionary measures have been taken to prevent any possible transmission of the disease, the French Ministry of Health added.

It also noted that the risk of widespread transmission in France or Europe remains low, according to preliminary epidemiological assessments.

The case comes amid the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where a number of international medical teams are working to contain the disease.
