Manama, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the second Ministerial Working Group meeting assigned with supporting the Federal Republic of Somalia against violations of its territorial integrity.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 33rd Arab Summit, was chaired by Ahmed Moalim Faki, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia.
The meeting discussed joint Arab efforts to defend the Somali state’s sovereignty and the unity and integrity of its lands, in rejection of the memorandum of understanding signed between Ethiopia and Somaliland.
A statement issued following the meeting affirming Arab solidarity with Somalia against any violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, rejection of the memorandum of understanding as well as any resulting legal, political, commercial, or military repercussions.
The meeting affirmed the Arab position that Somaliland is part of Somalia, in accordance with the Charter of the Arab League and
the United Nations Charter.
They welcomed the Government of Somalia’s request on involving the Arab League in any Somali, Arab or African efforts to support national reconciliation aimed at preserving its unity and sovereignty.
