Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid AlZayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs participated in the second Ministerial Meeting of Members of the Arab League and Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS) today in Riyadh.
The meeting was co-chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia and Gustav Aitaro, the Foreign Minister of Palau whose country is currently chairing PSIDS; and attended by Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Arab League Secretary General.
In his remarks during the meeting, Dr. Al Zayani commended the efforts of Saudi Arabia aimed at enhancing cooperation and building partnerships between Arab states and the world.
The minister said that expanding cooperation between Arab and PSIDS states in trade, industry and development and exploring joint opportunities in the sectors of tourism, culture and telecommunication; gains its importance from the strong friendship between the two sides and the political, security and economic challenges currently witnessed by the world.
Dr. Al Zayani said Bahrain affirmed the importance of enhancing multi-lateral cooperation between the two sides, whether through coordinating stances regarding pressing developments or exchanging support for nominations in the United Nations and other organisations.
The Kingdom of Bahrain supports signing a memorandum of understanding between the Arabic League and PSIDS, to create a legal framework for cooperation between the two sides in multiple disciplines, the minister said, adding that it was important to increase cooperation to address global challenges, mainly food security, climate change, terrorism and organized crime.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry delegation included Fawzia Abdullah Zainal, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League; Shaikh Ali bin Abdul Rahman bin Ali Al Khalifa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Saudi Arabia; Ambassador Talal Abdul Salam Al Ansari, Director-General of the Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Ambassador Fatema Abdullah Al Dhaen, Chief of the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Asian and Pacific Ocean Affairs Sector.
