Eurozone Inflation Hits Three-Year High of 3.8%

Doha:According to Qatar News Agency, annual inflation across the eurozone climbed to 3.8% in September, marking its highest point in three years. This increase follows a rise from 3.2% in August, as recorded by Eurostat.

Energy prices experienced the most significant surge among the main components, with a jump of 18.8% in September compared to 14.3% in the previous month. Meanwhile, services inflation rose to 3.2%, and food prices increased by 1.4%. Inflation in non-energy industrial goods saw a slight decrease to 1.1%, down 0.1 percentage points from August.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile energy and food prices, also edged up to 2.5% from 2.4% in August. These figures come as the European Central Bank keeps a close watch on price pressures within the eurozone, as headline inflation significantly exceeds its 2% target.

In response to ongoing inflationary pressures, the European Central Bank has raised its key interest rate twice this year to 2.5% and has indicated the possibility of further monetary policy tightening in the future.
