Brussels: The European Union welcomed Thursday the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, considering it a positive step toward ending the violence in the Middle East.
According to Qatar News Agency, in a post on her official X account, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas welcomed the ceasefire agreement, saying: “I welcome the ceasefire and hostage release agreement.” “This is a major, positive breakthrough towards ending the violence,” she said. “It is now time to deliver this agreement for all hostages and their families, the people of Gaza, and the people of the region,” she added.
The joint mediation efforts undertaken by the State of Qatar, in cooperation with Egypt and the United States, succeeded in reaching an agreement between the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel to ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and exchange prisoners and hostages. The agreement will enter into force next Sunday.
