Doha: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi highlighted the urgent need for the US and Iran to resume negotiations under the auspices of the Sultanate of Oman; the best solution to the current tension in the region. During a phone call with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides on Sunday, El Sisi stressed that his country categorically rejects the conflict cycle’s expansion in the region, adding that it is crucially important that Israel’s military operations across the region come to an end, since carrying on with its current approach will bring about great harm on all peoples in the region.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Egyptian President said that it is crucial that the international community assumes a more effective role in compelling regional parties to act responsibly and affirmed that peaceful solutions are the only viable means to maintain regional security and stability. He also restated his country’s unequivocal stance that the Middle East must be free of weapons of mass destruction, which should apply to all countries in the region.
President El Sisi said that a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue remains the sole guarantor to achieving stability and a lasting peace in the Middle East, which necessitates the implementation of an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of hostages and prisoners, and the creation of an independent Palestinian State along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in addition to providing the peoples of the region with security.
