Egypt Foreign Minister, UN Secretary-General Discuss Gaza Ceasefire

Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and international efforts to support the de-escalation process and solidify the ceasefire in Gaza, as well as achieving calm in the West Bank, in a phone call today with UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres.

According to Qatar News Agency, during the call, Abdelatty reviewed efforts to solidify the ceasefire in Gaza, stressing the importance of adhering to UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and ensuring the unhindered flow of humanitarian aid. He also discussed ongoing consultations regarding the deployment of an international stabilization force and reiterated Egypt’s firm rejection of any calls aimed at displacing Palestinians or altering the geographic and demographic character of the Gaza Strip.

He emphasized the importance of proceeding with the formation of the Palestinian technocratic committee as a prelude to the return of the Palestinian Authority to the Gaza Strip. He also highlighted the importance of joint efforts to increase the volume of humanitarian aid to meet the daily needs of the Strip and the need to continue coordination with regional and international partners to support the rights of the Palestinian people.

He also warned of the dangerous situation in the West Bank, given the alarming escalation of settler violence and the continued land confiscation policies, stressing that this approach threatens to widen the circles of tension and imposes an urgent responsibility on the international community to intervene immediately to stop the violations.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized to Guterres the importance of the role played by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), commending the UN General Assembly’s adoption of a resolution renewing the agency’s mandate for an additional three years.
