An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale struck the Aegean Sea off the western coast of Turkiye today.
Turkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said in a statement broadcast by the Anadolu Agency that the earthquake occurred about 150 kilometers from the Gokceada district of Canakkale province, at a depth of about 9 kilometers.
Turkiye, which lies on a major earthquake fault line in the world, experienced a devastating earthquake on Feb. 6, 2023, which killed more than 50,000 people, caused major damage to infrastructure in a number of the country’s provinces, and left thousands injured.
