Draft media law to be referred to Representatives Council’s Bureau

The Services Committee at the Representatives Council convened today under the chairmanship of MP Mamdooh Al Saleh.

The committee met Dr. Ramzan Al Noaimi, the Minister of Information, and several representatives of the Information Ministry, with whom it discussed a draft law on amending some provisions of Decree-Law (47) of 2002 on regulating press, printing and publishing, annexed to Decree (77) of 2021.

The visions of the Legislative and Legal Committee, the Information Ministry, the National Institution for Human Rights, the Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA), and the “Al-Ayam” and “Al-Bilad” newspapers regarding the bill were reviewed.

The panel was also informed about the Information Ministry’s responses to the inquiries of the Services Committee and licensed websites, in addition to BJA’s proposals.

In this regard, MP Al Saleh, the Committee Chairman, affirmed that a consensus on the draft law has been reached, noting that it will be submitted to the Representatives Council’s Bureau within the next few days.

He expressed sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Al Noaimi, all the Information Ministry’s affiliates and editors-in-chief of local newspapers for their constant cooperation and keenness to support everything aimed at serving the media system in the kingdom.

The committee also discussed other topics on its agenda.
