Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Confirms Qatar’s Keenness to Cooperate with International Partners in Curbing Climate Change Challenges

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani confirmed that the State of Qatar is committed to boosting the cooperation with its international partners in countering the challenges posed by climate change and its repercussions on the world.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs tweeted that he was pleased to participate in the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 27) hosted in Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt.

His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said that he is happy to participate in the climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh to underscore the State of Qatar’s keenness on the importance of cooperation with Qatar’s international partners in curbing the challenges posed by the climate change and its repercussions on the world and offered his sincere thanks to the sisterly Egypt for hosting the summit, adding that the State of Qatar aspires to further cooperation in securing a sustainable future for the world.

The State of Qatar participated in COP 27conference works with a delegation headed by His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. His Excellency also participated in the ceremony of launching the second edition of the Middle East Green Initiative Summit 2022 that was organized on the sidelines of the conference, and gathered a host of state and government leaders, decision-makers and representatives of regional and international organizations concerned with the environment and climate affairs with the objective of fostering the regional climate commitments that were announced in the inaugural edition of the summit last year.

The second edition of the summit highlighted the most prominent climate challenges facing the region and their dimensions at the global level, through an strategic platform that enhances the joint cooperation, share of expertise, discuss the ideas between the concerned state leaders, governments’ ministers and decision-makers in the states of the region in pursuit of contributing to accelerating the transition to the green economy and building more sustainable future for generations to come.

During its participation in COP 27, the State of Qatar discussed its accomplishments in the climate field, especially with respect to the sustainable development plan of the State of Qatar that works on multi-faceted themes with the objective of striking a balance between the economic and social development, as well as introducing the Qatari projects that conserve the environment, as Qatar places great importance on the climate change issue, and this was demonstrated through hosting one of the important stations for the climate change negotiations in 2012 represented in the18th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP18).

The State of Qatar participates in the events of the summit held on the sidelines of the conference works with a big suite that includes several ministries, authorities and institutions in Qatar to highlight its efforts in mitigating the effects of Greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to the climate change phenomenon, in addition to discussing the most prominent accomplishments made by the State of Qatar in the sectors of environment, oil, natural gas, energy, water, transportation, building, construction and infrastructure, along with the efforts of achieving the economic diversity, research and development in the field of climate change, renewable energy, energy efficiency improvements, waste management and methods of capitalizing on carbon dioxide, water and food security and biodiversity.
