Qatar University’s (QU) College of Health Sciences Student Association (CHSSA) held a virtual workshop entitled “Donate Blood, Save Lives” on 15 March.
The virtual workshop was presented by Dr. Sapha Shibeeb, an Associate Professor from the department of Biomedical Sciences at QU, in which he discussed the importance of blood donation and its role in society. He also explained the various concepts about blood bank and how to donate, the process of separating blood products and the preparation from the donor to the recipient, and the importance of proper blood storage.
The attendees exchanged and discussed various questions about blood donation. The CHSSA plays a great role in spreading awareness among members of the community, in which CHSSA composed a video in partnership with HMC Blood Donor Center to clarify the correct process for donating blood and familiarizing the latest analyzers in Blood Donor centers to test blood and ensure the absence of infectious diseases in blood products. These efforts are in accordance as an alternative solution to the annual awareness trips which have been halted in light of the current crisis due to Covid-19.
Jawaher Al-Emadi, President of CHSSA expressed her gratitude in the success of the workshop and thanked all participants who made this workshop successful. She also conveyed her deepest thanks and appreciation to HMC Blood Donor Center for their participation in the successful delivery of this workshop through their valuable cooperation. Also thanked Dean of the College of Health Sciences, Dr. Hanan Abdul Rahim for her immense support.
Through this virtual workshop, CHSSA anticipated to spread awareness in a manner that protects the safety and health of students. CHSSA strives to find alternative solutions that are suitable with the unusual situations. Thus, achieving its goal by spreading awareness in an effective manner and finding the best possible solutions.
