China’s Producer Prices Rise Amid Global Pressures

China: China's producer prices rose by 3.8 percent year-on-year in August, while consumer prices increased by 0.8 percent year-on-year during the same period.

According to Qatar News Agency, on a month-on-month basis, the Producer Price Index (PPI) reversed a 0.7-percent decline in July to rise 0.4 percent in August, as reported by China's National Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday. This increase reflects the ongoing economic adjustments within the country.

China's consumer price index, a key gauge of inflation, also rose by 0.8 percent year-on-year in August. This uptick in consumer prices highlights the persistent inflationary pressures impacting the economy.

NBS statistician Dong Lijuan explained that imported price pressures, particularly higher international crude oil and nonferrous metal prices, have contributed to the rise in domestic prices in certain industries. This has been compounded by industrial transformation and upgrading, which have boosted demand and prices in some emerging sectors.

Additionally, seasonal factors have influenced these trends, with a stronger summer demand for electricity and coal leading to increased prices in related sectors. Conversely, high temperatures and rainfall have affected construction activity and prices in associated industries.
