Bahrain’s pavilion inaugurated at Venice Biennale of Architecture exhibition

The Kingdom of Bahrain inaugurated its pavilion “Wet Origins”, at the 18th edition of Venice Biennale of Architecture exhibition which opened yesterday, Thursday, in Venice, Italy.

Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) President and Pavillion Commissioner-General Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa attended the inaugural ceremony, along with

Members of BACA engineering team, architects and other media professionals also attended the opening of the pavilion, which will receive visitors from May 20, at the grand opening of the Venice Biennale of Architecture, and will continue until November 26.

“We always seek to participate in the Venice Biennale of Architecture exhibition in order to promote Bahrain’s innovations and solutions in the field of architectural and urban development that are not only valid in the Kingdom, but can also be applied in other places around the world”, said BACA President.

He said that the pavilion has been accomplished, from the initial proposal to the final implementation, thanks to the efforts of Bahraini architectural talents, which was reflected in the excellence in the theme, title and idea of the pavilion.

The kingdom’s participation in Venice Biennale of Architecture explores the possibility of availing of the cooling and air conditioning systems in Bahrain in innovative and creative ways in order to benefit from its capabilities to condense water and, then, use it in creating eco-friendly environments and achieve more balance between the urban development projects and the natural environment.

The pavilion displays an installed miniature model of a local climatic environment and shows the public the possibility of implementing urban applications which have no existence yet.

The aim is to improve the infrastructure while taking into consideration the unique climatic conditions of the Kingdom of Bahrain, like high temperature and humidity. A documentary will be shown on this topic and a book, entitled “Wet Origins” will be inaugurated for the public.

Last week, Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) launched a website on this participation, showing details about the Kingdom’s pavilion at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition.

The website will be updated periodically with all new information, and the public can visit it at www.sweatingassets.bh.

BACA has chosen the two Bahraini engineers, Maryam Al-Jumairi and Latifa Al-Khayyat, to be the curators of the pavilion.
